The word addiction often evokes dramatic images: someone unraveling, shady, losing themselves completely. Yet addiction can be quieter, hidden beneath ordinary habits and much closer to us than we'd like to admit.
We are all addicts, each in our subtle ways.
Some of us reach instinctively for our phones, small rectangles of comfort, carried like protective charms against boredom, loneliness or awkward silences. Others are pulled into endless eating, shopping or scrolling, chasing something undefined through social media feeds, but feeling emptier with every swipe. Even our healthiest routines, like exercise or meditation can quietly slip into obsession.
